dis space has been kinda quiet for the past few weeks..if ure wondering y, its because i was at Dukun Magelang, Central JAva, Indonesia for yet another YEP trip with NTUMS (19th - 30th June)
suffice to say..it was a nice and definitely worthwhile experience..made wonderful frens..and many2 more..it was definitely a different trip from Aspire : Aceh with different learning points for miself as well..i had to admit i felt more satisfied being on this one because being part of the construction dept, we were given the task of "extreme-make-over"-ing a library and a recreation room for the kids over there..oh ya, not forgetting the sick bay..
if there was a prominent lesson that i learnt over there, it was about how stimes being in spore we forget the joy we can find in the simple things in life..wen i first entered the classroom, i felt as if i was being transported into the 70s show..literally..heh, it was like straight out of the P Ramlee movie ("Masam2 manis i tink..cikgu main bola hari2 cikgu main bola..heh)..it was astounding to see how d kids were playing guli, layang2..finding joy in dese kinda simple games..which we wud have already lost touch with in spore by now..in dese generation of psps, pcs etc..
d last day was an eye-opener for me miself..we had a carnival for them..jus 7 stations of simple games which u mite find at ur normal pasar malam..n d response from the kids was AMAZING!!! dey realli queued up for every booth n wanted to try out the games n have a good time..even d teachers joined in..simple games like using a ball to shoot the hoop, hit the cans, fishing in water, bowling etc with prizes that were given away..on mi part, i felt happy knowing that we did manage to give happiness to these kids while we were over there..of course, on top of the enjoyable lessons which were to inspire and to spark their interest to continue studying..
i cud write more..but im kinda having a headache rite now actualli..oh ya...pictures are over at www.sewukan.multiply.com..yep2..
it was realli fun being in the company of brothers n sisters who felt the same way about the kids as i did..n equally proud as well of the collective realisation by the whole team of our individual responsibility to continue helping those in need, wherever they are..
on a personal basis, i felt that it was a wonderful thing i joined the team..learnt a lot from the new members and revitalized miself over there..away from singapore.. a wonderful way to get one back to one's roots again..n self-reflecting how fortunate n how thankful we realli shud be in sunny singapore..
which i realli am..(n of course, i wud want to get back there again)
